The Pit

Lower East Side, NYC
The Pit is a concrete found-space located at the intersection between Forsyth Street and Broome Street in the Lower East Side of New York City. With a lowered “playing field” enclosed by short fence-like walls and large trees overhanging above, The Pit is a great shady spot for street soccer.

I chose to shoot at The Pit because of both the physical location and the community that comes with the spot. The sunken layout and low walls keep the ball in play while the tree canopy overhead protects you from the NYC summer heat, allowing for intense, fast-paced play. Smack dab in the center of the Lower East Side, The Pit is a community hub, drawing a diverse mix of players and spectators every day.
